Donald Ross drew the South Course in 1918; Robert Trent Jones Sr. sharpened it for the 1951 U.S. Open, after which Ben Hogan said he had brought the monster to its knees. Six U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships and a Ryder Cup have been played here.
